(Matrix Computations and Scientific Computing)
We meet WEDNESDAYS 11:10 - noon in Room 380 Soda Hall, Berkeley campus.
The coordinators are Profs. J. Demmel (demmel at cs.berkeley.edu),
M. Gu (mgu at math.berkeley.edu), and B. N. Parlett (parlett at math.berkeley.edu).
The program will be a mixture of research talks and tutorials.
The tutorials will provide a partial sequel to Math 221.

Title: Eigenvalues of tensors and spectral hypergraph theory
Abstract: We will discuss a notion of eigenvalues/vectors and singular
values/vectors for tensors of order 3 and higher. To illustrate its
utility, we show how it may be used to study hypergraphs in a manner akin
to spectral graph theory. We will also relate the notion to
hyperdeterminants and tensor norms and prove a Perron-Frobenius theorem
for irreducible nonnegative tensors.
